Challenging Corporate America’s Wars at Home and Abroad
From Cairo to Wisconsin working people are rising up against injustice. Massive strikes and demonstrations rocked Europe last year. Popular uprisings have challenged dictatorships and neo-liberalism across North Africa and the Middle East. Millions here see the bloody occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq as part of an overall offensive against our lives and living conditions. Workers and youth in Wisconsin and across the country have begun to fight back against budget cuts and attacks from both the Republicans and Democrats. Come to this important discussion about how we can organize to challenge the two corporate parties and build a real political alternative in the fight for our future as working people and youth.

Following her son’s death in Iraq, Sheehan gained national attention in 2005 as thousands joined her protest outside President Bush’s vacation ranch in Texas. Now among the nation’s foremost antiwar voices, Sheehan has written books and spoken extensively to gatherings of thousands. After the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006, Sheehan denounced the Democrats and their decision to continue Bush’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008 she challenged then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in the congressional election receiving an impressive 17% of the vote as an Independent candidate. Following speaking tours in Venezuela and Europe, Sheehan has increasingly spoken out against capitalism and in support of democratic Socialism.
